In 1807 John Blaxland, brother to famed explorer Gregory arrived in Australia. John was granted land in the Hunter Valley that was later subdivided to become “Broke Estate.” In 1989 the first vines were planted on the estate. The Tolson family purchased the property in 2012 and resurrected the abandoned vineyard.
In 2016 the first grapes were harvested under the new label and the guidance of Max with his 40+ years of experience in viticulture and agriculture. With the help of Bernadette and Max’s children, Laura and Alex, the Broke Estate wine and brand was relaunched in 2017.
Broke Estate produce small runs of premium wines including Chardonnay, Barbera and Shiraz varieties.
